National Stillbirth Prevention Day aims to highlight our national crisis in America. 1 in 4 stillbirths are preventable. We can save over 5,000 babies if we can pass if we pass the Shine for Autumn Act. According to the CDC Stillbirth will affect about 1 in 175 births, and each year about 21,000 babies are stillborn in the United States. That is about the same as the number of babies that die during the first year of life.
Stillbirth does not discriminate and affects all pregnant women. Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper protocols and increase lack of autopsies it has been hard to thoroughly know what is causing stillbirths according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Organizations like Healthy Birthday, the Shine For Autumn Act, Measure the Placenta, PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy and many others are getting the attention of our legislators to create laws for research to help reduce the stillbirth crisis in America. With advocacy and awareness one day will will be able to reduce the number of stillbirths in America.
